Default TL Space - TDM or Native?

I'm looking to purchase TL Space TDM for my HD2 system.

I was reading about it and it sounds like it uses multiple chips in TDM mode. I almost always run short on chips in my sessions (also really considering upgrading to a HD3 system). So I am thinking that if it really hogs chips, then I might never be able to run it in TDM mode anyways then I would just stick to a Native version.

Can any users comment on the chip uses?

When saying multiple chips, are we saying multiple of these guys.

Hi,

In TDM you can have short/medium/long the short uses one chip and the medium and long uses 2 chips. it depends on the reverb tails and whether you're using long decay reverbs as like a vocal ballad, or if its a short drum room etc.

The Native is quite efficient. But also depends on Cost as the TDM also comes with the RTAS version so for just a bit extra to buy TDM then you might find TDM is useful in some situation if you are using an RTAS hog or VI's etc.

I've found that the TDM version introduces some distortion/aliasing noise into the reverb tail on longer decays. I've been using it in RTAS mode since I discovered this. IMO there is no question the RTAS version sounds better - despite the extra delay...

Hi Dizzy,

I have the TDM version and i would say i am using TDM 60% of the time and RTAS 40% of the time. TDM is great when tracking and sometimes when i have a lot of RTAS hungry plugins, i use the TDM version as well.

I never notice any sound difference between the two, dont know.
I find it verry usefull to have both version and be able to switch back and forth between the two, somethimes it's my HD3 who is loaded, sometimes the cpu is loaded!

anyway, you can find the TDM version for cheap! I have two licences, so if you are interested...But i think you already send me an email ( i have a post for this one on the buy/sell forum).

hope this helps!

Luc

Just noticed that the TDM has a different gain than the RTAS. The RTAS sounds louder with same input. I don't know why.

I ALWAYS had problems with RTAS version on a HD system - I had a pre delay in the reverb when switching it to RTAS - I changed payback engine and everything but still had a short delay - thats no problem for vocal reverbs but it is for drum plates... now I use tdm version

I never had this delay thing with any other reverb in RTAS mode
