Default Dynamics ?

Hi

This my situation i pass alot of time trying to control the kick drumtrack volume with
compression because the drum player was inconstant in the kick.
I just want to control the loudest peak so im tryng a 1:5 to 2:1 ratio and attack .10ms
release about 200 to 400.
All is fine but the inital part of the hit still the same so im not controlling anything that i want.Im using the digirack compressor.

the digi gate will give you more control over the attack portion of a drum envelope

Varying spikes aren't much cause for concern, they aren't audibly distiguishable and they'll get caught by the peak limiter anyway. If you're anal about overs just put a limiter on the kick or better yet have all drums routed through an aux strip and put a limiter on that. If you want more consistent volumes use a shorter release (25ms). I'd recommend a longer attack to keep the punch, more like 65ms. Never mind how the spikes look, focus on the sound.
