Okay im going to buy it but im a little bit confused. I originally got my protools with my digi 003. which i sold and upgraded to mbox 3 pro. I still have to serial key for protools 8. but i do not have the 003 hardware anymore. Is this upgrade still possible?

You need the serial number of the 003 and maybe it is still there on the box.

@OP / @Nbilic

How did you get this to work in Win10 (x64 - Pro)? My s/w and OS won't recognized that the unit is even plugged in, let alone working. It knows when I remove / insert the firewire plug but, that's about it.

I'm running latest version of everything. I've tried ALL of the older Avid drivers for this unit too.

M Box 3 Pro via Firewire through one of Avid's recommended firewire cards.

Tried every suggestion listed in addition to the following:
- uninstall current driver version and installed all old versions
- installed using compatibility mode for windows 8 and admin privileges
- installed with mbox powered off and unplugged (and powered on and plugged in)
- removed my slight CPU OC and returned to stock

Worked fine 60 minutes ago with 8.1 x64 running

Custom system with the following specs:
- i7 4790K @ 4.21 GHz
- Water cooling
- Lian Li - High Efficiency Cooling
- Brand new Corsair 800W power supply - top of the line
- 16 GB high speed Corsair dual channel DDR RAM (2x8GB)
- Z97M Gaming mobo
- TI based firewire card (the one recommended by Avid for this mbox)
- R9 290 (AMD) graphics card
- Win 10 x64 Pro Retail OS (build 1511 and fully updated)
- 2 Event 20/20 bi amp monitors in a stereo config via balanced input and LOADS of acoustic treatment everywhere
- PT 13, PT 12, PT 9, PT 8 (HD license but, no HD h/w)

I have the exact same problem, at first I upgraded from Windows 8 to 10 and Mbox 3 up to last week was working fine. I decided to buy a new motherboard, so i clean installed Windows 10, what a mistake, even though the PC recognizes mbox 3, the firewire card is a texas instrument and is working fine, the audio cuts out or wont play at all, when I load up pro tools it tells me it fails to initialize the audio device, the control panel is also jumpy, play with it enough and its BSOD...
We really need this issue escalated to AVID itself, so if u admins have any pull, back door alleyway to AVID, please inform them we need Windows 10 drivers for MBOX 3 PRO...
Thank u
Ryan

I ran PT8 with Windows 8 for over a year before I updated to PT12 and PT10. No problem here. I'd like to update to Windows 10 but trying to anticipate any problems I might have with MBox 3 Drivers. The latest driver is from 2014.

The only advice I can give u is my own experience, it worked fine upgrading from win 8 to 10, no problems. But since I clean installed Windows 10 it no longer works. We can safely assume Avid have abandoned the MBOX PRO 3, with that said I am looking at the Focusrite Clarett 8Pre once they release the Windows drivers, that company continues to support their products not abandon them...

I have been having the MBox going silent for a while with Windows 8 as well. In the middle of pro Tools play back it will suddenly go silent with no input on the MBox meters. Pro Tools shows audio output but the MBox is silent.

This is true for many music production programs I run through the MBox and has happened with just the foobar music player.

I upgraded to window 10 today hoping it may be better but no luck. Pro tools and two other programs cut out the audio for various periods of time when run through the MBox pro 3.

Now that pro tools is windows 10 compatible we could use a real answer as to what the problem is.

Here are my systems specs which mostly far exceed the Avid requirements and are very close to the Dell T7600 which is Pro Tools certified. This system is a server level computer. The workstation is dedicated to music production.

Dell Precision T7610
dual xeon E5-2650 2.6Ghz cpus
64g ram
windows 10 pro 64 bit
2 tb ssd drive
nVidia Quadro K5000
LSI 1394 firewire
Pro Tools 12.5
Mbox driver 1.1.10 firmware 1.0.4

The problem seems to be the MBox itself and any help getting a solution would be appreciated.

I decided to open a support ticket the other day to ATTEMPT to get a straight answer if support for MBOX 3 PRO has ended (no future drivers). They got back to me and told me they had no information on this, which is ridiculous especially when we support avid and buy their hardware as well as software.
But then if we use some common sense the last driver was in 2014, I cant see them releasing any more drivers so we can safely say support has ended.
I am waiting for Focusrite Pre 8 to become windows compatible, the company has informed me they have beta drivers well on the way and they continue to support their products old and new...
