Default vocal effects???

any suggestion on how to get a cobain sounding scream-hook using only waves platnium inside the box. there is something going on with the wallace mixes on nevermind like a harminizer or chours, some verb delay and sounds like the traks are doubled, but im just guessing? anyone got a more concrete answer?

Try bouncing the vocal track to 2 extra tracks, then pan each other hard left and right, then delay one track 15ms and the other 25ms, then detune the left track minus 9 cents, and the right track plus 9 cents... now use this very low in the mix below your original vocal track wich should be in the center. If it sounds "too stereo" for your song, then just pan the affected tracks 80% to each side.

I said bounce and not copy the tracks, because you need the EQ and compression that you have on the original track for this to "feel" more natural.
Hope it helps. There are many ways to get that kind of thick chorusy stereo sound.

Joz had great tips and yes, Pitchblender rocks!, with waves you could also look at mondo mod, enigma, ultra pitch, or even supertap

with supertap and ultra pitch you can position taps and formants in the stereo feild.

with mondo mod you can do some crazy stuff with phase between the am and fm.

you could also have fun with smart squashing using C4 or LinMB on vox. all very artsy, always have an adult present when trying.

for more fun try iZotope Vinyl, its FREE!!!

The "pan & detune" effect is a cool one. But rather than deal with phase issues you might get when you do the previously recommended "pan & detune" effect (it might not collapse to mono properly) -- a similar way to get that effect yet retain mono compatibility is to make a "Mid-Side" type effect.

I assume you have a second take of the same vocal part.

This will use three tracks.

One track is your original main vocal. Pan that center. This is the "mid" track.

Take the second take, place it on a new track, and duplicate that track (so now you have two tracks of the second take). Pan one track hard left, and the other hard right. These will be your "side" tracks. Place a "Trim" plug on each and flip the phase on ONE of the two. Bring up the faders on those two tracks to your liking in the mix, dialing in the appropriate amount of "widening". But make sure they are both always at the same level.

The fact that you're dealing with a second, distinct take will naturally add a degree of chorusing in relation to the original (panned to the center). If you need to apply something like AutoTune to the second take, do so with AudioSuite on one of the two duplicated "side" tracks, and make sure you simply copy the AudioSuite'ed region to the duplicate, rather than processing the duplicate separately -- this is because it's important for both "side" tracks to be *exact* duplicates of each other. If you apply any effect to one, make sure it applies equally to the second. However, if you have AutoTuned the main vocal "mid" track, you might want to avoid AutoTune on the "side" tracks to give them more distinction from the original track. But feel free to do whatever you want with the "mid" track.

In Mono, the "side" tracks will cancel themselves out (the phase-flip does this), and you will be left with just the "mid" track. But at least you won't have to worry about your vocal disappearing when listeners hear it on their radio wake-up alarm clock! ...or other serious problems from severe phase differences...
