Turns out my Editor was on 2019.12.
So it looks like the problem happens in both directions when importing tracks. I followed the Avid instructions and managed to save the session, it seems to be stable now. Phew! What with this and the S1 debacle, my confidence in Pro Tools is seriously knocked at the moment.

Hi,
I had a bunch of "clip names were truncated" messages when importing tracks from other people's sessions working on the same files but they are on 19.12 just like me. When I open the source session on it's own I don't get the message and after saving over and importing into my target session the message doesn't appear. Has anyone found this bug to be connected to this odd "clip names were truncated" error? How can the clip names be too long when the session works on it's own? I hope I didn't lose anything but it's hard to say. Frank.
