You have to remember, not every one has been in this business for 10+ years and amassed 1000's of plugins like we have. People just getting into this only have stock plugins and want to expand their tool pallet, and there's some really awesome deals right now.

I'm going to have to sit out this year.

I'm broke and not working, so the deals are going to have to go on without me. Luckily I have a solid collection of plugins.

I just have to figure out how to pay the Avid tax this year to keep my Ultimate upgrade plan.

Yeah I don't really understand what that is. It sounds like you get a year long subscription with the new Carbon and then it just stays at whatever the last version you had was when the subscription runs out.

As I understand it Avid had closed the door to new perpetual licenses. For those who have had them for 20 years we are not keen on the "subscribe or die" attitude.

Thus the new option of subscribe and if you want to get off the Avid Tax Train© you can and still run the version you were running in perpetuity. Sounds like a positive move right?

Best to read the fine print. Based on what I read, while Pro Tools will continue as a perpetual license, the plugins may not. For those thinking about buying, have a thorough conversation with your dealer of choice

I own tons of plugins and VIs, all had at deep discounts over list price with the exception of Spectrasonics Omnisphere & Keyscape which I've never seen on sale. I jumped off the Avid Tax Plan last year, I don't see my current rig with 2019.12 and Thunderbolt Native not being able to handle anything I throw at it.
