Default MIDI notes still there after separating and deleting part of clip

I have a long MIDI track. When I separate it, a couple of minutes into the track, and then delete a large potion of it, I find that ALL of the MIDI notes are still there, just floating in space, completely outside of the clip.

I understand if there is an overlapping note, or two, but I don't understand why there are 20 bars worth of floating notes lying around after deleting a portion of a clip. Is there a way to delete the MIDI notes when you delete a clip? I know that I can go through and manually select them with the mouse, but then there is the issue of any leftover automation/pedal stuff.

It is quite rare that I would actually want leftover MIDI notes. If I wanted them, I would have deleted them, right?

Similar thing happened to me just this evening. I selected the middle of a long midi clip, and deleted. The clip outlines disappeared, but the midi notes remained. After several tries I ended up deleting all of the remaining midi in the track after selecting the whole track. Doesn’t make sense.

Yeah it’s a bug. See this and other related threads mentioned within http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=394955

Same here. New bug (in my case) with 12.8.2. Did not have it on prior versions of PT.

For years? I've never seen this. Could it be a combination of factors that causes this? Or could it be a Mac-only issue? Whatever it is though, it's completely unacceptable. I don't understand why Avid finds it so difficult to get very basic stuff right.

It’s v frustrating I agree. Seems like every update has at least one “WTF?!!” *facepalm* moment in terms of new and/or reactivated bugs.

Windows, too. At least in this version.

Been around for years, but nobody bothered to submit a bug report? I did tons of MIDI work on new and old files in 9.0.3, 12.4, 12.7, each variant of 12.8. It didn't occur for me until 12.8.2. Maybe it was much more rare before.
