Default Pro Tools 8.0.5 crashing Mac Book Pro 10.6.8

Pro Tools 8 M-Powered started crashing my mac book pro after not having any issues for a year. No new programs or any new memory sucking things were added, but I think it could have been from a general update that I ran and installed since I didn't do it for a long time, but even with that update it didn't start to have problems right away.

I tried to fix this by reinstalling Pro Tools, then getting the most recent update of 8.0.5 and 10.6.8 for mac. Repaired disk permissions. I also reset the P R ram thing, and cleared everything in safari.

This seemed to work temporarily then soon started crashing again. ( Turning black, lines, or abstract picture)

Computer seems to be generally slower.

This seems to be the only thing that crashes the computer. I can run audio interface (m-audio fast track pro) with itunes or safari without problems, just pro tools is crashing computer.

Any ideas of what to do? Anyone experiencing the same?

Thanks for your reply. When you say trash preferences what are you specifically talking about? Which program?

I downloaded all the latest drivers for the interfaces. I have run the system on other pc's in the past, but now just with my macbook pro. Been using it for awhile (over a year) without any major problems.

I'm trying now to find anything I don't need on the computer and get rid of it.

I still think it was an apple update that did something. Maybe I need to uninstall pro tools AGAIN and try the process over again of getting latest drivers afterwards.

Now I get horizontal lines and fragmented picture or just blacks out when doing playback in pro tools
