Default Anyone provide a walkthrough for hooking up an 888/24 to a 96io??? please!

I'm having a hard time finding any real setup directions for this. I can find how to physically hook it up and now to go to Hardware and click the Legacy port and choose the 888/24 and how to clock it using the BNC and correct clock setting.... but after that nothing.

I'd like to hear from folks that have this setup how they got all channels to work. Also if they had any problems with getting just digital noise sometime or not all channels to work and how the solved it.

In my case it's just too unreliable. I get some channels to work sometimes then reboot and then they "move" and its other channels. Then sometimes I get nothing. I figure if there was some sort of full tutorial or walkthrough, I might be able to solve the problem.

Thanks,

Chris

Sorry to hear you're having troubles with the 888. Here are two things to consider (I don't have my 888 right now).
1. It only works w/ 44.1/48k. If you're trying to do 88.2 or higher, the 888 will go offline.
2. Power up sequence - - As I recall, if you power up the 888 _before_ connecting the Legacy and Clock cables it'll boot into its standalone converter mode - which can definitely cause some funny stuff to happen when you do hook it up to an HD interface.

I hope this helps somehow

Thanks for the reply,

I have boot order proper. I can see the 888 in the hardware setup and IO window. I can get some ins and outs to work, but its random. sometimes 1-2 and 7-8 ins will work, and say 5-6 and 7-8 outs will work, then reboot and that moves to say 3-4 ins and 1-2 outs work. I now know from reading a bunch that the 888 only monitors on the leds the output... but sometimes when I get no sound at all... IT MONITORS THE INPUT! this is just too wacky. I'm pretty sure if I can get sound in and out of PT then I might have it all hooked up and clocked right, but is there some physical internal thing I should do to the 888?

the 888 manual mentions pins and stuff inside the box to switch, but I'm not that brave to just crack it open and try stuff.

anyone else have this issue?

Here's my system

mac quad core intel.

The latest update prior to Snow Leopard.

Protools 8HD 2 - I have not update to the 8.0.3 cuz of the issues I found out with coreaudio

96io and trying to add 888/24

My system has been solid for 3 years with no issues. This is the only issues I have had since I tried to add the 888/24

I can't find that -5 error anywhere.

have you tried trashing the DAE prefs?
you do have the Legacy port active in the hardware setup?
-5 is usually a system hardware problem
the only internal setting would be for +4 or -10 reference operational level of the analog
