Default bounce problems

Greetings, using ver 4.1.6 I seem to have a problem when I select all on a sequence and attempt to bounce all clips. It will start creating bounce clips untill the system falls over and a restart is the only way to get back to square one. Even selecting a small bunch of clips and bouncing a few at a time causes this problem. I have experienced this on two systems each with mega ram. Anyone else going spare over this? The reason I am bouncing is to create media for tools sessions, maybe I should try consolidating first instead, backup is not an option due to the amount of dud data that goes across.
cheers
julius
