Sound Miner key command to delete files?
Hi,
I've been a very happy Sound Miner user for years. Version 4 is apparently capable of deleting sound files from the archive using a key command from the browser window. Does anyone know what it is? I don't mean deleting an entry from the database, I mean deleting it from disk. It has happened well over a dozen times since I upgraded 8 or 9 months ago and happened again yesterday. I auditioned a file, heard it and liked it, and then my fingers fumbled on the keyboard. I relocated the sound I just heard and asked SM to import it into PT. SM reported it could not find the file. I checked the effects archive and the folder that contained that sound had a new modification date and indeed the file was missing. I restored the file it from a backup and everything was okay. As I said, this has happened numerous times, there must be a key combination that does this. What is it? |

Re: Sound Miner key command to delete files?
Thanks Frank,
I know you are more expert on SM than I am. Yes there is a right click menu with "Delete Record", but I cannot find any reference to a keyboard shortcut for it. On Mac, control-click is the same as right click. I have a feeling a modifier key is involved, but using the right click menu asks me to confirm the action. Yesterday, as before, the file was simply deleted without seeing any other dialogs or menus. |

Re: Sound Miner key command to delete files?
I think I'll set the archive for read only permissions unless I need to make changes. I probably should have done that years ago.
SM support is always fast to respond, but sometimes is intimidating and I just don't feel like dealing with them today. Maybe tomorrow. Thanks Frank! |

Maybe SM should implement a "send to trash" instead of deleting right away. Frank.

Re: Sound Miner key command to delete files?
Yeah, that's why I have been using full access permissions, but for now, it will be better than discovering missing audio files! Thanks again.

Re: Sound Miner key command to delete files?
send to trash should really be all any application does if you ask it to delete.... I thought apple delete might actually delete files from disk (in Soundminer)... Not sitting in front of it to check tho..
