Thinning is an extrapolation of the minute edit points you create when writing automation; think of it as smoothing combined with clearing out unnecessary automation data.

mmm-k, I sort of get this and thanks Stone, but can someone state in simple english (is not my primary language) what this does to my audio if I set the thinning to none or maybe all the way up.

And thanks again Stone and Socata.

thinning effects the automation data only, not the actual audio.

gabriel_p,
Hi. Thinning does exactly what the word implies. If you do a fader automation by hand, PTLE writes a lot of data to disk showign exactly how you moved the fader. You get maybe 100 automation data points.

Now maybe you only need a few, so thinning helps get rid of some of the data along the way. That's all.

You can also 'thin' by hand. Just select the pencil, and then push the Alt key. You'll see the pencil invert and now you're erasing. You can erace you automation data points this way.

Cheers,
Mark
