Digi CoreAudio Manager and Leopard 10.5.5 unstable to say the least!
I swear, I've been using Pro Tools since back in the 5.0 days, and NOTHING ever changes! I recently upgraded to Pro Tools 7.4, on my Leopard system, and I'm using Reason 4.0.
Digi CoreAudio Manager opens, and my Digi 002 Rack works fine with my system, and then all of a sudden, after a few uses I get all kinds of error messages! And now nothing works. I mean, come on Digidesign! Can you finally create some decent drivers and software for my $2,000.00 Digi002 paperweight? Over my career as a musician, I have spent probably 75% of my time playing music, and 25% of my time trying to get my Pro Tools Hardware to work properly. This is unacceptable! If you want to stay in the game, get your act together and get some decent programmers, and do a COMPLETE rewrite of your drivers and software! Ok, sorry, now that I vented...does anyone have any idea how to get my system up and running so I can make music! Digi 002 Rack iMac 24'' Leopard 10.5.5 Reason 4.0 Pro Tools LE 7.4 Thanks |

Go back to 10.5.4...? 10.5.5 not being fully qualified may have something to do with your troubles. When it comes to Digi always check the compatibility docs before upgrading. At least Digi vets things and lets us know what works and what doesn't. I never have issues following their lead.

I don't know what to tell you man. My system is exactly the opposite, I think it runs far better with Leopard (10.5.4) and 7.4.2. Maybe that is the problem, get the 7.4.2 latest CS update. I don't think that the 10.5.5 part has much to do with it, most people are not having issues with that OS.
Anyway, try going to 7.4.2 CS2. Also, make sure that Reason is updated and compatible. J |

You need 7.4.2 for Leopard. That will help your situation.

i'd say try not to vent if you are gonna use the wrong PT version on an unsupported OS. My 2 cents... If you stay with a stable version of Pro Tools and a supported OS version instead of trying to upgrade to the latest version every time Apple releases an update, that 25% would turn into 1%, I promise.

sorry...i have 7.4.2.
And I understand 10.5.4 is more stable, and that I shouldn't have upgraded to 10.5.5. Is there anyway to downgrade using Time Machine? I guess my point is that it is sad this day and age that a small incremental upgrade can so easily destroy Pro Tool's fragile Digicore audio drivers. |

You said you get all kinds of error messages?
What DAE errors or exact messages are you getting? And is your problem mainly with DigiCore Audio not working with other apps? Which apps are you using? Pro Tools works fine?

actually for about 15 months now I have had no issues other than the one I have on the forum right now, but I am one of the few still on 10.4.9. So for me it has been less than 1%. My biggest issue ever came when my machine got updated from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9. Wow, that was a bad incremental update, and you can't expect Digi to have a magic solution when Apple obviously did something major between those two updates.
The best way to downgrade is to buy (actually I think you can use it's free version features as well, but I suggest buying the full version, it's cheap) SuperDuper! and backup your system to an external hard drive. Then do a fresh Erase and Install using the disc that came with your Mac. That way you can re-load a fresh 7.4.2, with no old version goobers hanging around. Then you can check your plugins one at a time as you load them, using fresh downloads of course of the most up to date Leopard plugins. Then with the fresh start you can start thinking twice about downloading this or that or loading programs you don't need or shouldn't have on a Pro Tools machine. If you limit yourself to only the things you need to get by then Pro Tools will run smoother. I'm a big advocate of the "Erase and Install OSX" action. A lot of times a fresh start will get rid of what issues are causing Pro Tools to be unstable. Then if you pay attention, as you start getting your computer back to normal, if you load something and then Pro Tools is having issues, then you'll know your culprit. Keep your system drive as clean as possible. This is a big undertaking, and will probably take most of the day to do, but I bet you will be running smoother afterwards.

for installing 7.4.2, you should do a complete uninstall of older versions first. did you try uninstall/reinstall?
