Default Near Field Monitors

I know this has been discussed to death but I couldn't find any threads.

I need to buy some near field active monitors and am looking for some advice. I have a pair of Auratones and I love them but they don't tell me what's going on in the low end. So I need something that will do that but isn't immense.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

peace

Have you tried the BM5A's... Nice bottom end and overall easy on the ears. You can also wait for the new Adam A7 and give them a listen.

Thanks guys. Are the Yamaha's in any way comparable to the NS10Ms? Those things were torture to listen to but the mixes worked.

I second the BM5a's Dynaudio. I have tried them but now own the BM15a's.

The new Yamaha's are nothing like the NS10m's, There is actually low end below 100hz unlike the NS10's and they are not as Hard/Bright either.

KRKv6's are also good but not like the BM5a's. Detail and imaging is far superior with the Dynaudios.

If you're looking for something to complement the Auratones this is a good choice, but I would still keep the auratones for editing. I have them and I love to edit with them, far less fatiguing to listen to at low volumes.

I do mostly acoustic music and needed to hear the low's as well... but especially the mid's. Dyna Audio's a great choice... but I ended up with Mackie HR624's. I just heard more things with the Mackie's... that's my ears though and I do have a known hearing deficit at 4K in my right ear from surgery. We all hear things a little differently hence the varied options and opinions. Its like buying a pair of shoes, I prefer to try them on before I buy to see how they fit... I think monitors fall into this catagory. Best thing to do is bring a few CD's of the type of music you mix, to where ever you are going to shop and A/B them.

Take a piece of audio you know very well and vist a few music shops and listen to the monitors. It is your ears, not anyone elses. That is how I kitted out my studio, by playing and listening. I use Tannoy as I love the responce I get, I tried Yamaha, I found them missing in the top end, it is all personal taste. Buying by any other way is a bit like buying a car because you like the colour?
