Default Merging MIDI

Hey guys,

I have a basic problem that I can't find the answer to in the manual...

I'm editing drums in the MIDI window....It's set to MIDI merge, but when I copy and paste a hi hat part from one section to another it deletes whatever was there before and only pastes the hi hat.

I know there's a simple way to be able to paste the hat into a new section without deleting the kick and snare that were there. Will you please let me know?

Thanks!
B
