Mixer choice and the future of the DELTA 1010
Hey,
I just got hold of a Delta 1010, an upgrade from the 44 for which I had the omni box which meant i needed no pre-amps. Now, I have read somewhere that future pro tools updates will NOT support the 1010. Is this true? If so, what are my best (and cheapest) options for gaining 8 inputs into my PC Also, are there any 8-12 channel desks anyone knows of which are particularly great sounding for not much money? I will be buyign 2nd hand more than likely. thanks! Also, why would Digi decide not to support certain soundcards all of a sudden? |

Re: Mixer choice and the future of the DELTA 1010
I have not heard this actually, I'd like to know where you read that the Delta 1010 would be phased out.
The only negative note about the Delta 1010 is that while it supports multi-card sync, just like the Delta 66, Pro Tools only supports a single card at a time. I just got hold of parts for a second 1010, and it bites that only one can work while Pro Tools is running. But I'm not sure what you mean when you say you don't need Pre-amps. Are you talking about the 1010 or the 1010LT?

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Delta1010/ http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ProFire2626 The cheapest being the first. For the money, although I do have a delta 1010lt as well (Not the breakout box), the 2626 is well worth it. It's got better preamps, 8 mic preamps, 16 adat ins and outs, 2 spdif, midi in/out and wordclock. Although PT only alows 18 ins and outs at 48k (Less at 96k), you can use the other inputs and route in the control panel prior to opening PT. In other words, you can use 16 adat in's in PT, or 8 analog, 8 adat, 2 spdif. This is by far the best m-audio option. IMO. Edit: The delta 1010lt, was a fine card for the 200 bucks, but with only 2 mic pre's and the most terrible wordclock sync of all of the interfaces, the 2626 was a breath of fresh air. |

Re: Mixer choice and the future of the DELTA 1010
And as far as I know, there has been no EOSS announcement about the 1010. You never know, but at this point I wouldn't worry about it unless you have a real statement to back it up. EOSS announcements are given the update before they happen.

Re: Mixer choice and the future of the DELTA 1010
I honestly can't remember where i read it, maybe over at harmony central but i remember reading that it wouldn't be supported past 8.01
fingers crossed it wasn't a dream, hopefully i'm not starting to lose it just yet! the not needing preamps was in reference to the OMNI box i have for the 44. so i shall either need to buy a desk, or one of the above soundcards - looks like the option will be a desk since i already have the 1010. doeas anyone have any experience with compact mixers? Soundcraft, mackie, yamaha etc |

Re: Mixer choice and the future of the DELTA 1010
Soundcraft makes great pre amps and yamaha and makie are all nice. I use a 16 channel makie and a 24 channel soundcraft. Souncraft being the better of the 2.

As of version 8.0.3, the Delta 1010 will not be supported on Macs. Still supported on PC's.

Allen and heath are nice mixers. I don't about all of them but at least some use soundcraft preamps and they sound nice.

Re: Mixer choice and the future of the DELTA 1010
Again, I have two delta 1010 (not LT, with I/O rack) in sync and working great in PT8 (and Vegas, etc. etc.).
About sync: it has been known for quite some time to avoid using wordclock for sync and sync 2 deltas via spdif. also: the "latest" drivers are not always the best driver. I choose to utilize delta driver vers 5.10.00.0051. great sound and solid as a rock. The PCI delta 1010s (non "LT" vers that is) are great. I still avoid Fwire type. PREs: Soundcraft and mackie VLZ pro, VLZ 3, or Onyx are pretty good...serviceable imo... but you'd be making a wiser purchase in saving and spending a little more of your money here (preamps). Good pres aren't cheap but they're worth their weight in $. Next to the artists, how you mic things, how you mix, the instruments used...the pres are also high priority (imo). |
