Re: Dissapointed !!!!!! SDII & D24
Where might I find Default App? I have been using Peak since I've updated. The problem lies in Peaks inability to handle regions IN THE SAME FASHION as SD2. I record 1000's of files for voiceover/multimedia, and the isea of waiting for peak to redraw all the waveforms IS INSANE. Plus you can't even add all regions in a playlist the same way you can with SD2. Yes, outdated, like a screwdriver - but sometimes if the screw fits...
Speaking of being screwed! I've kept an old Quadra 950 just to "ensure" nothing gets updated, changed, etc - which means the stuff WORKS - all 4 trcks of PT, waves, SD2, SampleCell. Man, life is so much EASIER without updates! |

Re: Dissapointed !!!!!! SDII & D24
My biggest complaint is easily rectified - anyone who is upgrading to PT24 should be told by the appropriate salesperson about the SDII problem. The buyer could then make an informed decision instead of later feeling like Digi pulled a fast one on them. I think that lack of Sales Force Diplomacy has been a major factor in the "Digibashing" that goes on. Customers who upgraded from PTnubus to PTpci (PTIII) were not told that they could no longer use their SDII plug ins either. And - this one gets me - PostConform owners were not told that PT24 would not run the program at all.
Please, Digi - when introducing a new platform, don't pretend that everything is hunky dory. Be upfront with your customers and you will engender more trust. |

Re: Dissapointed !!!!!! SDII & D24
Danny,
You are absolutely right. Everyone handling hardware upgrades in our department is aware of which Digi software does and does not work with our hardware. We all look up a customer's list of registered products when we do an upgrade to determine how everything they have will or will not work together, hardware and software. I can say that all of us try to make sure this happens every time, because it is unpleasant for us as well as the customer if there is a "surprise" after the upgrade. There have been some cases where that information may not have been properly conveyed, and here are a few examples of how that might occur: • The salesperson might have just missed it. I've accidently done that myself, and called the customer back if I realized it afterwards. Never intentionally. • The customer is sometimes in a hurry, and might hang up before you get a chance to discuss everything. • We sometimes get orders by fax, email, carrier pigeon, the studio's receptionist, spouse, etc. making it much more difficult to discuss everything involved with an upgrade. • Check your registration. Ask for a list of your registered products. If something is missing, maybe it is registered under a different listing, such as your studio. And send in those reg cards. Bottom line, we try to discuss every aspect of what is involved with an upgrade, and while we might miss something, we want you to know as much as possible. On the customer's end, there are things that you can do as well, including checking all of the available compatibility documents. And taking the time to get into specifics with the Product Specialist handling your upgrade. Ask a lot of questions. Even if you are going through the dealer, it is important to contact Product Information before your purchase with any questions you might have regarding your specific setup. I don't know the details of your individual experience, but if one of us failed to give you proper counsel for whatever reason, I apologize. We would really have far more to lose by trying to "trick" someone into an upgrade than by covering all of the bases. That's how we have been trained, and that's the way we always try to do it. Re: Dissapointed !!!!!! SDII & D24
Well, I was at the last AES when I received information about the 24 upgrade. I was given literature about how SD2, even though on release date, would not be compatible, but would by "sring 98", or something like that.
I still have the brochure, but it is at the studio. I made my decision to upgrade based on talking to your salesman, and this "compatability" handout. How was I to know it was inaccurate? What more can I say? By NAMM in LA, I had already updated, and found rumors of non compatable SD2. This has killed my samplecell setup, and has affected my multimedia work greatly. |

Re: Dissapointed !!!!!! SDII & D24
Dear Digi,
Well I'm more than sad, to hear that SD 2 is not working annymore on the D24 card: I feel abused, since I`ve been proposed by Digidesign recently to make an upgrade to version 2.8.3 . No statement or whatever about this incompatibillity!!! Annyway, You could erase this Loop window code, as one could erase this Fourier analyse option. Don't tell us there's no space left... This guy who made SD 2.8 compattible with the PCI cards, maybe he could do another wonder and give us back our favorite audio-tool? C`mon Digi ,it's us who baught back in the early (Digi)days this software, which made the fortune for your todays glory... PLEASE?!. |

Re: Dissapointed !!!!!! SDII & D24
I can understand Digi don't want to continue developing SDII, BUT for heaven's sake incorporate the missing features into ProTools!! Although v4 is a little better than v3.2, we really, really need decent crossfade/region boundary editing. A lot of classical music has to be edited by ear and trial & error, rather than by a clearly visible beat, and having to delete the crossfade before adjusting region boundaries is hopeless. You can't judge the edit with a butt-join - it's far too intrusive.
My concern now is that even if this feature is finally included, it will be too late for those of us with NuBus systems! |

Re: Dissapointed !!!!!! SDII & D24
Yes, add me to the growing list of people mourning the "death" of SDII. Over the last few weeks, I've edited projects for Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker, Chicago and Tim McGraw. SDII is a GREAT program once you learn it.
Digi, you're goofing up here. Take out some of the useless part of it and update it to work with your new hardware. shame on you for pulling a GREAT product! John |

Re: Dissapointed !!!!!! SDII & D24
They're response is that it would cost thousands to reprogram the code for updating. I think there are enough users willing to pay for this to happen. How about it? How many would pay digi, DIRECTLY, $350 to have sound designer as a TDM plug in? I sure would...

Re: Dissapointed !!!!!! SDII & D24
Count me in on the $350.00 TDM SDII plug-in. digidesign, get a grip! Also, how about some filters on SampleCell that we can really use?
