Wink Save $$ tip: Before u waste money on a midi keyboard...

BEFORE YOU WASTE YOUR MONEY ON SOME OVERPRICED MIDI DEVICE DO THIS:
Go to a regular (non-musician) store. By this I mean Radio Shack, Target, etc.
Buy that keyboard sitting there on the rack for $100 dollars or less. Search the box for a little logo that says "General MIDI" and don't leave the store without it.
It'll probably be some cheap Casio you never looked twice at.
It'll work just as good as the one you were about to buy except it probably has far more octaves, costs less, and actually makes sound on its own.

The argument you'll hear against this is that it will give you latency. Those people are either speaking from their assumptions or they didn't yet know how to remedy their latency issues at the time back when they tried it.

I just did this 2 months ago for a friend who was looking to build a studio out of pocket and didn't have much to spend. Works like a charm.

If you want to avoid buying a Triton or other expensive keyboards: Do this then get Reason, get a Triton soundbank for Reason, load it into the Advanced Sampler on Reason, connect your Casio improvised MIDI device, audio out from your computer to your Casio, adjust the few milliseconds of latency... VOILA! Your Casio now sounds like a Triton with an identical soundbank.

I just recently threw my kurzweil in the garbage in favor of my kid's toy keyboard. The action is so much better, none of that "feels like a real piano" BS.
And the sounds are amazing, so I also threw away all of my sample libraries, this thing sounds so good.....

Wow, that was some good beer. What's it called?
