Default Pro Tools LE stability for live recording

I'm feeling like on thin ice with my system...

I have a 13" MacBook Pro just for tracking with SC48. I was recording a festival gig with 7 bands and PT GUI froze during tracking of third band. Then I noticed that the led on external HD was still flickering just like when it is recording so I waited with my force quit until their performance was over, and guess what - I got lucky - all the audio was still recorded (session was empty but I was able to import audio from the audio folder).

Anyone having a rock solid LE setup for tracking?

I use a MacBook Pro, 17"/2.4ghz,4gbRAM, 250gb HD(7200rpm), along with a Western Digital Drive(7200rpm)connected with USB. I've also used a Western Digital Studio Drive with Firewire800. I prefer the USB connection for the external drive bc to me it seems that the VENUE and external drive sharing the Firewire bus can sometimes cause some lag.

I thought that you couldn't use FW800 with PT8?

not using it with a Venue, but I use it regularly with no issues. I run an HD24 as backup, just in case.

i do have my interface (lightbridge) on its own FW port, and an expresscard 34 FW card for the hard drives.
