It won't let me deactivate because the ilok needs to be present. I'm trying to run PT on my laptop. Do I need to have the ilok in this laptop and then run it? And then would it work? But how would that be advantageous if i have to use the ilok in my laptop too?

Your iLok needs to be plugged in to activate or deactivate licenses on that iLok.

PT needs the license to run so you'll need your iLok plugged in (with the license activated to that) or if you have persistent internet you could use the license in iLok Cloud.
