6.4 prefs gives me a headache
Under OS9 you could listen with option-click to a sound in the bin (right sound-list in the right of the edit-window) and the position of the session did not change. After listening to a sound like this you could simply press play and the session would start where it was before you opton-clicked on the sound. Of course everytime you hit play the session continued in play - in other words - it did not jump always to the last play-point - but it continued playing like a tape from the point where you last stopped. Because you do this in some areas of work quite often it seems to me very important.
Is it just me or is this not possibal anymore with OSX (PT 6.4)? I checked all prefs but either the session jumps to the session start after releasing the mouse (when you listened to a sound from the bin) or you hit play and it will allways jump to the last start point and not the last stop point. In post this is most anoying!!! Is it just me or is there a bug (i would call that a bug). One editor even refuses to work under OSX until this is fixed - so please - could anybody help me!!!!!!!! Is there no way to set the prefs so that the system behaves like it did before - if this is false - please explain to me how to set the prefs so that it just stays at the play-point (where you last stoped!) after listening to a sound from the bin. Thanks in advance PS: Everything else works just perfect - did not have a single crash since on OSX on three systems. |

Re: 6.4 prefs gives me a headache
I don't have 6.4 yet but it has been an option to act like you describe for quite some time. In settings under operations there are two check boxes one is edit window selection follows region list and the the other is the reverse (exact wording may be different I don't have PT up at the moment). Anyway if edit window follows region list is checked anything you highlight in the region list will highlight in the edit window. Now if your scroll options are set to auto scroll then the window will scroll to include the region you just highlighted. So either turn off the auto scroll or uncheck the follow box.
Hope this helps |

Re: 6.4 prefs gives me a headache
Actually re reading your post you need to uncheck the box. The reason the play back is jumping is because you are highlighting a region in the edit window. PT has worked this way for a long time, you just have the pref set wrong for the way you want to work.

Re: 6.4 prefs gives me a headache
Thanks - but...
track selection follows region list selection is unchecked - did that before - of course. The problem seems to be: If you check timeline insertion follows playback (so hitting play is really a continue - which is what i need and always had) then you are allways at the start of the session after listening to a sound from the region-list. And this was definetely different under OS9 (checked that several times - still have OS9 on that mac - and under OS9 PT behaves the way it always did and how i like it). The scrolling-option is page-scroll during playback (and always was with my systems). So - sorry - something changed or i cannot find the prefs i need and had under OS9. Just to double-check - of course i also deleted the prefs and set them again.... |

Re: 6.4 prefs gives me a headache
Well I just checked and your right... I don't use insert follows playback so I never noticed?
Strange and I would say not correct behavior. Maybe Digi could respond to this one..... |

Re: 6.4 prefs gives me a headache
Thanks for looking this one up! So there is a change in the prefs behaviour...
Hopefully this will be fixed in the next release. Could DIGI say something about that? Is this recognized as a bug? Cant be a big deal to fix it... |
