5 PT\'s & 5 PControl\'s & 1 switch?
Hello
So we are wondering, can all of these be connected to a common switch and work properly? Do I need to setup multiple Appletalk zones; one for each rig as some have suggested? Answerbase makes no mention of the actual setup procedure other than saying "it can be done". TIA Cheers, -Polaris

Hi
You could use Pro Control on common network but would need to create appletalk zones in order to not see any other Procontrols in the other locations. You could try to: 1) Take your first system, Scan for Ethernet controllers, identify the ones in the room you will be using. Then rename the controllers (main unit, fader pack) with names that reference the room and system. That way the next system will know which units not to use. Appletalk zones should be set up through your network admin team. MJ Digidesign Tech Support |

Thanks MJ,
Could you clarify this a little though? Until I can get Appletalk zones setup for each rig, are you suggesting I can plug them all into one zone then assign them one at a time and each PT rig will ignore the previously assigned PC's? That would be fantastic!

Polaris.
In theory you should be able to name the units from each room with that rooms Procontrol. So room #1 has Main unit #1 room #2 has Mainunit #2 ect.. Starting with the first room, name the units, then the second and so on. You should be able to go into Pro Tools and now see your choices for PC's. Just select the unit with the corresponding name of that room. Appletalk zones are set up so you could be on zone : room1. You would have access to only the units on that Ethernat hub in that room but still be connected to the rest of the network servers and services. This would be the prefered way of setting this up to avoid any issues with other rooms grabbing the wrong units and cross traffic issues on the network. MJ Digidesign Tech Support |
