digi 001 PCI card failure
Hi
I have been in Mac hell for the past week. Here is a summary of my problem with my G4 G4 dual processor 1.25 MHz,1 GB RAM,OSX G4 froze Reboot and G4 stays on Apple screen with spinning cursor. Cursor froze no change. No response from keyboard or mouse. No light on the mouse or caps lock. Repeated reboots with same results, although sometimes the screen remains black, i.e. the Apple logo never appears. Clearing PRAM will not work since keyboard is not responding Unable to open CD drive since keyboard is not responding Replaced battery – no change Removed added memory – no change reset internal CPU reset - no change Finally, I remove the digi 001 card and the system works! I ran hardware diagnostics and everything checked out. I put the digi card back in and the same system problem reappears. So my digi 001 system is fried, what are my options? I recently finished a major recording project on this system so I am in gig mod promoting the new CD. I am currently using the system as a note pad and for practice. I don't have $1700 to upgrade to 002 at this time Can I get a used working PCI card from digidesign? Do I save for a used 002? (~$500) I am hesitant to pay ~$300 for a used 001 system Any one else have a digi card go bad? I welcome your comments Curtis [email protected] www.BlueElectricCool.com |

Re: digi 001 PCI card failure
Have you tried booting with the PCI card in the system without the cable? It could be a cable failure.
Have you changed OS' in the MAC? Have you contacted Digi about a replacement card? A used OO1 from eBay is not out of the question, but a little more, you can upgrade to an OO2R. Is MBox a short term option? I have one I'd part with for $350- +S/H.

Re: digi 001 PCI card failure
I had a 001 card fail, but not with the symptoms you describe. As of 6 months ago, yes you can get a replacement 001 card from Digi, but not cheap. As I recall it was about £120 here in the UK. I decided at that time to go with the hardware exchange to 002R and have no regrets, but of course that's a whole lot more money.
With the symptoms you describe I'd be inclined to try another USB keyboard, or maybe even no keyboard at all, just the mouse. I've seen some strange behaviours ultimatlely brought home to a bad USB cable.
