Default Mbox2 Connection Problems

Hi there,

I hadn't used my Mbox2 in a few months and recently plugged it in to do some stuff only to realize that it wouldn't power up. After trying various things like the 10.4.9 combo update, and different USB cable, my laptop is recognizing it in the preferences but the LEDs are not lighting up. And CoreAudio doesn't recognize it. Then I finally got the LEDs to light up, but ProTools still wouldn't launch. The error message would say that the Mbox wasn't connected.

So basically the system preferences say it is connected, but CoreAudio and ProTools will not recognized it.

I've searched fairly extensively on these forums about this problem and have tried all of the relevant troubleshooting that I could find. Has anyone with this problem resolved it? Any advice or help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm using a PowerBook G4 1.67GHz, 1.5GB RAM, OSX 10.4.9 combo. I've tried various versions of ProTools from 6.8 to the latest to no avail. Firmware is up to date.

I have to leave my MBox plugged in and on for several minutes before attempting to use it. It seems to need to "warm up". Otherwise, it fails using my Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz.

Once it's been on - sometimes for an hour, it runs flawlessly.

This sounds like it's defective - possibly bad firmware. You probably should contact tech support by phone for further troubleshooting.

Wow, haven't tried that one, and I don't think anyone should have to wait an hour for their Mbox to work. Thanks for the info though.

Thanks for the reply. So even if my warranty is up, will they still help me? Man, I've barely used this thing and it's broken. Talk about not getting your money's worth....
