Re: No AAX Talkback plugin? No Problem - here's the fix!
The BIGGEST reason for the Massey TalkBack plugin that *I* will miss is its ability to mute when a threshold is reached.
SCENARIO: When sitting in the same room with everyone wearing headphones, piping in a room mic (talkback) so everyone can hear each other without taking their headphones off helps - and the singer is usually off in a closet somewhere. When tracking and a band STOPS and there's a question about a portion of the track they're recording (a transition from the verse to chorus, or chorus to bridge or something), the drummer says "Like this?" and immediately commences to banging on his drums. AAAAAAAaaahhhhhhh! Drums are blared into everyone's ear REALLY LOUD and distorted. I have a talkback switch, Massey's talkback plugin took care of the immediate shutoff when something was too loud in the room. I'll check out the video and see if it solves the problem. Thanks!

You could have saved yourself some typing time by watching the video... I have it setup so that the channel is cut when the signal passes a user-defined threshold, just like the Massey plugin. I understand the scenario, which is why I arranged for a contingency. I also mention this in the post itself, near the end |

Re: No AAX Talkback plugin? No Problem - here's the fix!
There shouldn't be. I mean, there will always be some latency, but a negligible amount. The latency won't affect the attack speed of the ducking, if that's what you're worried about. Any latency experienced between the talkback mic and the cues will be the exact same as the instrument mikes and the cues, since unless you're running a cue mix straight from the desk you'd be following the exact same path.
EDIT: Just realized when you said ADC you meant "Automatic Delay Compensation" instead of referring to latency caused by A/D conversion. Two instances of Channel Strip (native AAX) on my PT11 rig show a delay of 0 samples. (Low Latency Monitoring turned OFF, Dynamic Plugin Processing turned ON) |
