Default Why get hybrid mode if on hdx?

I just read about what the new carbon and hybrid mode is. If you are hdx do you even need hybrid playback? I'm confused as they say you can pay for the hybrid engine if you are on hdx.

Yes absolutely we need it. It allows more efficient and targeted use of DSP, and more access to the native CPU in Pro Tools. It means HDX users can probably now buy voice packs to make larger sessions, rather than the previous solution of buying additional HDX cards regardless of whether they actually needed the additional I/O or additional DSP for low latency monitoring.

So you think we'll be able to buy the voice increase that was promised? hmmm

LOL,

anyway I think if the mixing engine would run Native it would leave all HDX power to plugins (you would have more than twice the power than Carbon) as now the DSP engine sucks a lot of power. And personally I don´t see it better than native. All the contrary, it´s limited.

Yep. Pro Tools Expert's description of Carbon is that it is basically a native system, but it gives users the ability to flip entire channels to HDX-style DSP for low latency monitoring. It gives users a lot of control over when and where DSP is used in general, which really doesn't sound like a limiting thing at all.

If a similar thing comes to HDX, it is a far better solution than the originally proposed increase to 384 voices ever was. Partly because HDX in its current form uses voices in a much different way to a native system. I have attached two screenshots - both exactly the same session but HDX uses 55 voices, while native uses zero. The hybrid mix engine would prevent the disparity in voice usage. A Carbon-esque hybrid mix engine for HDX also means session sizes aren't limited to the number of voices available on a single HDX card.

Selling ten year old technology in a shiny new box. Excuse me if I don't get the bunting out.

Actually it´s not that bad, If you take in to account that you get a Pro tools ultimate perpetual licence and some really good plugins (Melodyne) in the package.

If I wouldn´t have had a complete studio and have to start from 0, this is actually a pretty good deal.

The interface would be arround 1000€ and comes with some great converters and preamps. Maybe they will give the option to only buy the interface alone.

Just saying...

Wondering what I could sell my Ultimate license for so I can buy the Carbon which includes a license!? I like the workflow it offers but ultimately I don't need another set of crappy mic-Pres. Would have been better if it had 16 I/O on DB25 with another 16 on ADAT/MADI.

Well, if this is the way AVID found to increase voice count on HDX we should get it for free!!!
