Default Re: Crash at splash screen

A few of my sessions started to hang (beech ball of death) when trying to close the session or quit Pro Tools.

So I downloaded and used Peter Gates PT Prefs Trasher which I’ve heard great things about.

Nightmare! Pro Tools kept crashing when scanning plugins. Turned out that some of my Izotope plugins didn’t like what the Prefs Trasher did. I had to reinstall PT Ultimate 2018.7 and remove the offending plugins just to get through the whole scanning process which was so long due to amount of plugins I have. Once this completed, I added the plugins back into the folder and low and behold PT scanned and launched successfully.

Very bizarre!

I’ve been informed that it’s a known issue when we have a lot of plugins. When Pro Tools starts to scan all the plugins this issue might occur. So:

1. Grab the installPlugins file before deleting all preferences.

2. Move all the plugins to the unused folder and put a bunch of them inside the plugins folder and then open Pro Tools. Close Pro Tools and do the same again. Until all plugins are scanned correctly.

Sorry to hear you’re having trouble. I’m on 2018.7 Ultimate with lots of Izotope plugins so I’ll try it again here but haven’t seen this before this and the one other post here. I’ll do some more digging. If there’s any more info you can give me that could prove useful pass it on.

Cheers,
Pete

The plugin scan issue is noted in Avid's release notes. And the workaround. Doesn't have to do with a brand's plugins either. It's always good to read the release notes.

Not a problem with Pete Gate's pref trasher. That works perfectly and does what it should.
