PT 12.7, Kontakt 5, iMac MIDI Studio, Launchkey 49: The whole thing just crapped out

Hi All,

First time poster... been searching these forums for DAYS before posting as I know there's generally an answer on here. I've tried everything in the posts I've found so, here's my issue and the screen shots associated with it.

A few days ago, was trying to get my Rickenbacker Kontakt 5 bass emulator playing through a template (Mixed by Marc Mozart) but for some reason neither Kontakt nor a normal MIDI Synth (Omnisphere) would pick up on the MIDI Controller (Launchkey49). I used it previously on non-template sessions and it seemed to work, but now it looks like I may have done something incorrect.

The Launchkey can control the knobs and faders on PT12.7 but the keys wont make a sound. Kontakt isn't picking up the midi in PT either but will work fine stand alone.

I'm lost. Any suggestions, a slap across the head or a good scolding would help.

I am also getting:

"Pro Tools is unable to communicate with HUI. Power-cycle HUI and check its connections. note, if HUI is not in use, update peripherals dialog to prevent further warnings"

My Launchkey is going directly into my Mac as there's no input in my Universal Audio device.

I've also checked through a MIDI Monitor which is picking up my controller but giving me these commands when used through PT12

hi, is your midi assignment on your instrument / midi track correct ?? did it lose connection with your Launchkey ??

you did not show any pics of your midi setup on the track(s) that will not play the keys .. you have first midi instrument so you do not need any Tracks Record enabled .. it should play whatever midi track you are working in / and highlighted

might need a little more info here to help ..

Hey John, Thanks for responding.

Apparently I was WAY off. It had nothing to do with the above I had originally posted, and I was mixing up an audio track with an instrument track and messed up my signal routing. I was trying to run my MIDI instrument through an audio track which didn't work, I was then routing it incorrectly to the wrong track which made it a double idiot mistake.

I sure felt like a moron after that...

You're no idiot as you were able to figure it out which is a lot more than some do. I often find when I run into a weird problem to walk away from it for a while and something will come to mind to check out that I hadn't checked before - and that's usually the fix.
