About routing, printing and so on, remember that a tracks output can be set to more than one. (if i remember correctly, the modyfier key is ctrl(mac), start(win).

Personally i usually don't use a master fader, but a aux track called "masterbus". And it's output is set to both my interface and a "printbus" that goes to a "print"-track.

Name it "to speakers" or main Out/MO or similar. The outs should be on the bus you have mapped to your speakers - I don't know what yours are but they could be 1&2. Mute this channel and you mute your speakers etc

Next create a 2nd stereo MF. Name it MixBusMstr. Left click the "out" of your new mixbus MF and hit new track. Select width stereo and type aux input - name it mixbusmstr and hit create. This will automatically create a bus named mixbusmster and route it appropriately to a new aux track (which probably also outs to 1-2 by default). Rename this new aux track "router"

Now select the Out of "router" with a left click and create a new stereo audio track as you did for router (except type is audio this time) call it "print" and hit create. Again a new bus is created without having to go into your I/o setup. Simply rename the track "song title" and you can record audio to this track.

Because you created that 1st MF you still have control of what goes out to your main speakers no matter how many tracks you choose to bounce down within the session.

Ah. Am coming from an audio post perspective so always need a ppm meter on our MF to check broadcast standards etc. Drop the first MF and start from the mixbusMF and all the routings should work fine.

Soz for confusion. Music side of things just a hobby - but number of mixdowns we have to do in post (vos, dubs dialogue +/- etc) gets a bit silly at times. However it does teach you to route tracks for bounces via auxes

Will now but out and leave you to it

side note: i do not mix with this template ... got it last year as a subscriber at "mix with the masters". think you can get the whole template at puremix.net too now.
I too just subscribed with Mix with the Masters and it is by far one of the best web sites I have found regarding recording/mixing/production and worth every cent.

Is Schep's template downloadable on the website? I have most of the same plugins that Andrew uses and it would be great to have the downloadable content. Although it is a great learning experience to re-create his template manually as I watch his "De-constructing a Mix" tutorials

I know it's available at Puremix.net. He's done a number of things there.

Ben I didn't realize a track output can be set to more than one . That may be the solution I was looking for. Perhaps the Master Fader can be set to my interface and also the "Router" aux at the same time

No. That's where master faders are basically a different beast from the other types of track: It doesn't "go" anywhere, it's just a volume and plugin-enabler for ONE specific hardware output. And that's why it's plugin slots are post fader, unlike the others.

I really recommend using a aux as master. It facilitates routing and using plugins.

"It doesn't "go" anywhere" --- That's what I have to wrap my head around to understand better. So it's almost like a VCA?
