Default Pro Tools 9 with old (c. 2003) MOTU 2408mk3

We're thinking of moving to PT 9 and continuing to use our early 2000s 2408mk3 interface. We're running Windows XP right now, but that can be upgraded if necessary. Will this work? If so, which drivers do we need, and where can we download them? Thanks.

Why are you thinking of moving to PT9? What features is your current software not providing? (I'm a big proponent of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality)

You will need Windows 7. It's necessary.

side note: PT9 will install on XP, but it wasn't designed for or developed on it so there will be a few features that do not work as intended (don't ask me what they are; I really do not know), and if you have problems, you're on your own. If you want a stable system (as stable as Pro Tools can be), stick with what is recommended.

You would need the latest drivers for your interface from the MOTU website. You might also want to check out the comments/issues on the unit on the Air users blog PT9 hardware checker.

I had PT9 running on XP for a couple weeks. It worked marvelously except that I had no MIDI I/O. It simply would not see my 002R as a MIDI interface, even after multiple installs/uninstalls of both the drivers and PT. After upgrading to Win7, all happy land. So, you know, that kind of thing. But Win7 is just a joy compared to XP, all round, so I'd definitely skip the unsupported route, if possible.

The only reason I did it was that I tried to upgrade from XP 32-bit to Win7 64-bit by downloading it from Microsoft's website. FAIL. Had to wait for them to mail me the install DVDs. Should have just gone to Best Buy and I'd have been up and running two weeks sooner for the same price with a lot less time and energy wasted. Afterward, my Dad, a senior network architect at Target Corp, told me that two of his co-workers who are Microsoft certified tech people went through the same thing. So I don't feel so bad. The lesson is, don't upgrade from XP-32 to Win7-64 via the download method. Just don't bother. You need the physical media.

MOTU has newly released drivers for the 2408 mkiii. I loaded up the 424 card last night and installed the drivers. They work, i'm using win7 x64. The one main issue is that when you use the MOTU, none of your digi le hardware will work and vice versa . I'm still looking into it thought.

MOTU mk3's working here on Win7x64 with PT9. The main problem I've run into is PT9 shutting off the ASIO output (though not sure if it's PT9 alone with 3rd party ASIO, or specifically MOTU with PT9). i.e. - loading a video, opening a project with Omnisphere, etc. Also, changing latency requires restarting PT and in so doing, PT will often start back up with outputs turned off - toggling output assignments fixes it, so it's easy enough to resolve, but frustrating to deal with.

To those running the 2408 mk3 - what is the lowest sample buffer you can reach?
