Default new software compressor...

and oh my, it's a yummy one!

http://www.elementalaudio.com/produc...ium/index.html

Try the demo, it's Mac/Windows, RTAS/VST/AU.
The trial mutes the sound every few seconds, but you'll get the idea,
it's a different kind of compressor, more visual and it really sounds great.
Try the presets to give you a general idea, I was really impressed with this.
I think Waves is simmering in a boiling pot right now, as there's some serious competition lurking not too far behind, and at a fraction of the price!

Enjoy!

I'm glad that you posted this. I recently downloaded the demos for eqium and firium from elemental and I don't think the compressor was released yet when I did. If so, I overlooked it. I'm pretty impressed with the eq's. I'm going to check out the comp demo and probably pick up the bundle.

All the best,

elemental audiosystems have a nice TECHNICAL appreoach to our common problems and this too seems nice, in tech point of view. however, the more i have tweaked "my" sound, the more i realize that i love my "musical" plugs, such as urs N-series parametric, focusrite d2/d3 bundle, etc.

i could use this little beast for mastering, though. have to give it a try...

HI, I totally agree,

each to their own but the Elemental Audio Stuff was always an insane price/quality ratio

I´ll definately check that out.

price is not everything, it's the sound that counts. i'm impressed about the ability to set different ratios for different thresholds, but i haven't yet tried it myself in real-life. specs look nice and technical

Hey PK - have you tried the Digi Smack! compressor. I thought it added some character too.

Hi everybody,

I just took the time to get to a tesing of Neodynium. Ok this was EXPECTED to sound good, but man,
this is a hell of Compressor. It lets you split you signal into 4 Volume-"ZONES" in a way the Multibands (MC2000, Dynasone Waves C4) do it with the Frequency ranges.

So if you have a volume consistent noise you might be able to compress it right out of the signal in a way that can not be achieved by a simple Gate, theortically so.
OR you can bring out the ambience of a recording without affecting the peaks.

and it has this fine Look-Ahead-feature to predetermine volumes peaks up to 10ms ahead. It also has an advanced Key-input filter and the limiter-feature is build right into the plug, too.

For the sound I can only say: tasty. Neodynium is not intended to replace your McDSP or Sony (URS doesn´t have any comps at the moment) musically (as expected) but has a clear "unaffectionate" sound helping the audio material.

But what you get for $139 (for now, later $169) is simply amazing.

If you´re looking for some cost and cpu effective replacement for Waves Comps and EQs, this is it.

And in a reply to the above post, Neodynium smacks Smack! no end. IMHO
I liked Neo lots more than Smack, which is not bad at all and will have it´s use, it´s just no competition that is. Esp. pricewise.
But I also could not get warm with the d2/d3 Focusrite Plugs.

Perhaps EA wil, come out with a reverb, too, to show what can be done.

just my HO.

any other opinions?

best

PS: Neo induces 3 samples delay.
