Default New Waves license idea TLC 90 days only.

  • Your permanent Waves license will be removed from your iLok. It will be replaced by a time-limited TLC license.
  • Every 3 months, Waves will deposit a time-limited (90-day) license in your iLok.com account. To eliminate any possible downtime, there will be an overlapping period of 7 days between licenses.
  • You will need to download this license to your iLok every 3 months.
  • In case your iLok is lost or stolen, log into your Waves account and choose the “Claim TLC” option.
  • Waves will deposit a new time-limited license into your iLok.com account.
This license will be valid until the date of your next scheduled 90-day license.
  • Download this new license to a new (or other) iLok key, and you’ll be up and running.

part 2
  • TLC is available at no additional cost to V6 bundles with a minimum of 6 months of Waves Update Plan coverage remaining. (TLC is not available for single plug-ins.)
  • Your bundle is eligible for TLC coverage as long as your Waves Update Plan is current, for up to one year.
  • Upon expiration of your TLC coverage, Waves will provide a permanent license.
You will then have the option to renew TLC.
  • TLC offers up to 2 claims per product per year. After your second claim, Waves will provide a permanent license, and TLC coverage for the current year will expire.
  • TLC may be cancelled at any time. If you cancel TLC, Waves will provide a permanent license for your product.
  • In case of TLC cancellation or 2 claims, you may renew TLC for that product only after the original TLC period has expired.
  • TLC coverage begins only after you have downloaded the first TLC License to your iLok key.
  • You must download your first license within 3 months of enrolling for TLC. If you do not, you must re-enroll for TLC.

It's not mandatory to do this -- you gotta give Waves credit for offering something that solves the iLok loss or theft issue -- what would you do if your iLok was stolen? Do you think you'll get all your auths restored, for free, within a few hours? If this is your expectation, be prepared for frustration.

Is the Waves implementation the best of all worlds? It doesn't appear to be... BUT, for someone who travels with multiple iLoks, this may be worth considering.

It's not clear whether Waves will respond within hours. With the additional service Pace offers, the company issues temporary licenses pending manufacturers replacing them in the event of loss or corruption. Waves chooses not to be part of that program.

The main difference between the two is that you don't need to do anything if nothing happens, except pay a reasonable fee. With Waves you have to remember to download a bunch of licenses every three months. A PITA indeed.

Not true. If your iLok is stolen you file an insurance claim and have re-buy software you already own. With this, the orphaned licenses are only good for whatever is left of the 90 days, and you get your licenses back right away. If it's smooth and easy to do, it's a brilliant idea.

Please read carefully.

Zero Downtime Coverage

The iLok.com Zero Downtime program enables iLok owners to immediately replace licenses in case an iLok is broken, lost or stolen. Benefits of covering an iLok include:
  • Immediate replacement of licenses in the event of disaster
  • Priority support during replacement event
  • Peace of mind
Here's how Zero Downtime works:
  • Sign up for Zero Downtime coverage for each critical iLok you own. You also purchase spare iLoks as needed for emergency.
  • When a covered iLok breaks or is lost or stolen, log in to iLok.com and go through the RMA process for the affected iLok.
  • iLok.com automatically deposits time limited temporary licenses in your account.
  • Using iLok.com, you download the temporary licenses onto a spare iLok. You can now continue to work using these temporary licenses.
  • You send us the broken iLok.
  • Once we've validated the broken iLok, we provide you with permanent replacement licenses in your iLok.com account.
  • You put the replacement licenses on your spare iLok. You now have a complete replacement of your licenses.
  • If the iLok was defective and under warranty, we send you a blank replacement. You can use the replacement as your spare if you like.
Yes, there is a small fee, but you don't need to do anything if you don't have a problem. In the event of theft, you may need to file an insurance claim or just provide a police report (depending on the manufacturer)...

...but again, you don't need to do anything if nothing happens.

How do you RMA an iLok that's been stolen? They mention stolen but none of their details apply to stolen iLoks. Which leads to the question:

Has anyone actually gotten companies to replace assets when they were stolen using Zero Downtime coverage? Something tells me it's never happened or iLoks would get "stolen" all the time. Remember Pace has nothing to do with replacing the assets, it's up to the individual company.

I just re-read your post. At the end it says right there, you'll need to file an insurance claim. This new thing keeps you from having to do that. The assets get orphaned when stolen. Completely different thing from Zero Downtime.

Agreed, and a step in the right direction. Hopefully there will be some kind of reminder option because I know I won't remember.

I spoke to Pace when I signed up for Downtime and if memory serves they said that the insurance claim was needed in the event a company did not support their program.

And to your statement that people will be making claims constantly - a police report is required, insurance fraud is a crime, and if an iLok keeps getting stolen, then I'm afraid that there is no help for such an individual.
