Upgrade from PT 8 PPC to PT 12 HDX
Am finally getting a chance to upgrade my legacy G5 PCIx HD Accel 3 rig running PT 8 up to Avid HDX core running PT 12. I found a 2010 era Mac Pro 12 core 2.93 ghz, 64GB, 256 SSD, 4 TB drive for a decent price on Ebay. It's going to be a whole new world.
I'm aware of some new features like clip gain, true 64 bit architecture and offline bouncing. I wanted to ask anyone reading this what their favorite or most used feature is in PT 12. These features could be in PT 10 or 11 and still be new to me. Of course I will peruse the documentation.... but in the meantime what features do you think are the most important I can look forward to? Thanks for chiming in... |

Re: Upgrade from PT 8 PPC to PT 12 HDX
I think you'll have a good time using PT 12. Version 12.5.2 has been very solid here.
Features I like: - clip gain - clip transparency when editing - improved batch fades - auto accept adjust bounds preference - enable automation in record preference - disk cache - commit There are nice features coming in 12.6, too.

Re: Upgrade from PT 8 PPC to PT 12 HDX
Biggest thing I noticed going from TDM up to HDX was the difference in the mix engine, going to the full 64 bit floating point mix bus is a big step up sonically. Clip gain is great, freeze track and commit are huge especially if you use a lot of VI's or CPU heavy native plugs.

Re: Upgrade from PT 8 PPC to PT 12 HDX
I did not know the sonics improved significantly... I did not upgrade my 192 interface... but am looking forward to how 64 bit processing affects the audio quality. New work flow having the ability to freeze tracks will prove itself useful. I hope my Command 8 is compatible.
