Default Midi / Audio Help

How can I record Midi , while using protools as my mixer and sound thru .
If I try to record enable a Midi track it records a Audio track . I am also having problems trying to use thrird party sequencers when I click on them I loose my sound until I go back and click on protools .
I have a feeling that there is a way to get around this , but I am not for sure.
thanks.

Instead of bringing your audio inputs up on Audio Tracks, try using Aux Inputs. Then when you need to record, bus these Aux Inputs out to Audio Tracks (whose inputs should be set to the appropriate bus.)

Make sure active in background is checked.(ProTools) Make sure that 'Run MIDI in background' in OMS Setup is active.(OMS)

will this help me in recording midi and being able to monitor audio or the same audio as the midi being triggered ?
The wacked out way I have it now is that I us Digital performer , and I use oms emulator , I have midi in protools running , and I get double not duplication or midi triggers .
I do this because when I click on protools midi from Digital performer Stops functioning , so I just turn the same instrument on in both protools midi and Digital performer .
I am thinking after all this software development I am doing something wrong , because surely there is a way to monitor audio inside protools while recording midi.
Maybe I am just simple minded , or just looking something over in my active midi set up ?
I really wish I could get this figured out it would give me a whole new perspective on protools , being able to use live plugins while digital performer is sequencing on the same platform .
Thanks so much for any advice .
Kik
