Default Digi002 Rack or Apogee Rosetta

I'm a 001 owner. I was going to break my little piggy bank and buy myself a new Rosetta AD, but I read that the new 002 Rack has improved converters.

Now, considering that they both in the same price range, what would you get, if like me, you could only afford one? Can the 002 converters totally replace the need for a Rosetta or Lucid?

No flame please...I would not ask if I already knew.

I'd go with the Rosetta.

Get the Rosetta so its still a useful device when you decide to use it for something else, or someWHERE else where PT gear will do you no good but good conversion will.

Out of curiosity. Are you the same TAPKAE from the VS Planet.

Thanks guys for the advice. I read that Apogee tends to "Upgrade" their gear instead of totally replacing the models every year. For example, they have a 88.2/96kHz option card for the Rosetta, which means I could use it later if I upgrade to the 002 or even (dare I dream) the HD.

One more question: Is anyone seriously using a Rosetta on a HD rig, or I'm just stretching it?

Thanks,

Thanks,
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The Rosetta A/D is absolutely useful on an HD rig, even as just a clock master. That being said, if I were you, I would be looking at the Rosetta 800 instead, which is supposed to be better than a Rosetta A/D and has 8 channels of A/D and D/A, which would make more sense for both your 001 and eventually your HD rig if you so choose, if only from the standpoint of having both ins and outs covered.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Sure, why not? Use it with the cheapest interface you can (96 IO) for two channels of superior conversion, and a good master clock to boot...and at about half the price of Digi's eight ins and outs for just two ins, it still ain't cheap...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">If you think about it, they're not really in the same price range, because:
1) If you purchase a Rosetta, that's $1100 out of pocket and you've still got your 001
2) If you purchase the 002rack, that's $1100 out of pocket, but you can still sell your 001 for at least around $550. Then, with that cash, you can save up a couple more pennies and buy a Lucid AD9624. Then you've got your 002Rack AND superior conversion.

If I were you, I'd opt for #2.
