Plugin for recognizing what notes are being played
Hello.
Is there a plugin that tells you what notes are being played in say, an audio clip you insert into pro tools? I would like to sing a beat, then for pro tools to tell me which notes I'm singing so that I can manually put in the notes for a MIDI instrument I'm using. I do have a keyboard, but I'm still learning and am not able to play too well yet. I think that this would be a great learning tool for myself. Any advice or help much appreciated. |

Re: Plugin for recognizing what notes are being played
Melodyne does more or less that, you have to make a lot of corrections if the audio is not clear but the best plugin of all is the ear, even if you are starting with music or melodic instruments you can train yourself to memorize short passages and reproduce them in the piano.

Re: Plugin for recognizing what notes are being played
Thank you for your feedback.
I tried the melodyne trial previously - it was great, but unfortunately at this current time it's unaffordable for me. I'm doing my best to train my ear, I think that singing notes and seeing it infront of me would be a great way to learn. I am saving up to buy melodyne at the moment, is there anything a little cheaper than melodyne? |

Re: Plugin for recognizing what notes are being played
If you want to see what notes and chords you are playing on your MIDI keyboard, Pro Tools already has that functionality built in. It won't help you with playing back audio clips though.
Just enable the MIDI Input Display. That should work, and there is a tuner included with Pro Tools.

Try InTune. It is under the other category when selecting inserts.

Re: Plugin for recognizing what notes are being played
Autotune pro for audio but expensive
Also acoustic apps like "n-Track Tuner" will show root notes on your phone or pad. Also consider some music theory apps...
