Default New slate raven x1 console.

Lots of new gadget, some cool routing capabilities.. but is it just me or is that thing ugly? I personally prefer having all my fader in one place (since I mostly do music) so having such a wide gap in between the faders places you outside of the sweet spot, and there's so much wasted space on that console it's a bit mind fogging. Any one else think so?

I kind of had the same thoughts while spending time around it at namm. But it's obviously meant as the large format replacement w metering, spots for iPad/iPod, room if you had 480 or similar remote, quite a few monitoring options, long back row for monitor placement. Nothin us guys in smaller rooms could handle. No price announcement yet either.

ya, at the moment it's a 15k volume knob
with some faders (& laptop speakers!)

could become a great alterno to dcommand.
steven did say they could make it modular;
without the bays, for ex.

I wouldn't place that anywhere in a studio, small or not. Yes sound is the most important obviously, but ergonomy (English?) and client appeal also have to have it's place. Maybe it's just personal, but the look of it is more like an old 1969 space capsule than an actual mixer console.

Here's the picture from the slate website

And there's this AES video with Slate and SOS magazine doing the interview. Not available until sometime in 2013. And if you look at it closely it's an ergonomic nightmare - not enough wrist/arm rest, flat keyboard, and how tired are your arms going to get working the touch screen?

Well unless they dropped the model that was being discussed in this thread (rave x1) the link you gave us Musicman is for the Raven mtx, not the same board. But I agree with you even there.
