Ummmm. The dll file goes where the Atmosphere installation program puts it.

Atmosphere is RTAS Compatible. While it may use that dll file, It would do so through it's *.dpm and *dpm.rsr file. There should be no reason to manually place the dll. ust follow the installation instructions that came with Atmosphere.

Perhaps you have an old version? Get the update from www.spectrasonics.net

You cant move the dll around with Atmosphere either. THere's a utility called SpectraMove to move library content around.

The manual reads: Atmosphere doesn’t appear in my host application? What should I do?
First locate the Atmosphere.dll file which was originally installed to
C:\Program Files\Spectrasonics\Atmosphere using Windows Explorer. Highlight
the file then Press CONTROL "C" simultaneously to copy Atmosphere.dll to the
copy buffer. Then locate the VST instrument plug-in folder that your host
application requires launching VSTs. Press CONTROL "V" to paste
Atmosphere.dll into the folder.

Perhaps I don't know what vst instrument plug in folder PT uses.

As I already mentioned to you, the installer takes care of installing the proper RTAS plugin for Atmosphere in the proper place.

It sounds like you have a very old version of Atmosphere. Older versions were VST only, and the dll message would apply in those cases. However, Pro Tools cannot use VST plugins in it's native form. You either need to wrap them with the FXpansion wrapper, or upgrade them to version that are RTAS compatible.

In this case, You need to ugrade. www.spectrasonics.net

The hypersonic question........well I did reassign all the channels and that stopped all of the intrument tracks fron roaring through every track, the doubles and triples of each instrument. Thanks for the tip.

By the way, before PT 7, midi tracks went through a stereo track,......in terms of quality, would you created an individual stereo track for every virtual instrument, or route all midi through one stereo track?

PT 7 and older versions aren't really that different with regards to VI. You still need to insert most instruments on stereo tracks. Only now with PT, you can use Instrument tracks instead of AUX tracks and have a MIDI track already associated.

How I do it really all depends on what it was I was doing and what instruments I was using. For example, XPand only has one part, so if I'm using xpand, I would have to use multiple instances of the plugin on multiple tracks. Most times using multi-timbral VI, where you can have several channels of MIDI assigned to different tones (like Structure, Kontakt, etc) I'll use a single stereo Instrument track while I'm doing the "virtual" part, especially during the creation phase, and add MIDI tracks as I add sounds to the plugin. I find it's easier to continue the creative "flow" that way. Then when I get to mixing and/or need to print I either solo parts and print or split it up into individual audio sends. Many newer plugins also have direct outputs to the tracks, so that makes that extremely easy.

It all depends on how you like to work. Lots of people like to separate it all at the get go. I've even started doing that lately, especially with BFD drums. Computer power these days really allows you to do a lot.
