Could the blast and/or static have something to do with having a CoreAudio app running when PT is launched or running? Or is the static a known, other issue?
Just a quick update: used PT on my MacPro for a few hours yesterday, making sure that all CoreAudio apps had been quit before launching, and I didn't run into the static or the blast. Can't say for sure this is it... just another data point.

Hi,

I've got the noise bursts with 8 tracks. Thanks for working on it.

Hi ya'll I just quit the process Mbox2cs in my activity monitor, and it seems to have cleared up. Protools works fine.

Will keep you posted.

i have just upgraded to a mac pro from a powerbook g4. didn't have this problem on the g4. trying to work on a project on the new system (all the software is updated and up to spec), and keep having this problem. it is really unpleasant, and i cannot get any work done this way. what is the deal? i have no other software running simultaneously. just protools LE only. i am using waves plug ins, but i need them, so i can't take them out of my system. please help.

thanks,
inky

I keep watching this thread to see if it's safe to buy LE yet - looks like the answer is still no.

Yes bump indeed.

I was and am still debating moving from SX to PTLE (although would lose Surround) and unless I get a 002, I would lose my mackie 400F which to me sounds better than some preamps 3X the price.

So am very worried about this - I have heard of whining issues on other forums as well (gearslutz) and some say its the cable, other still have the problem even after buying the BEST monster cable.

Grounding problem mayne?

Another update from me: by continuing to make sure that I'm running no Core Audio apps when PT is launched, I haven't run into the "static" issue. The "white noise blast" has also not occurred again, though I encountered something like it once: when I was playing around hitting pads in DFH Superior's RTAS plug-in before all the samples had finished loading. At that point any hit would result in a sound similar to the blast, but the volume & timbre of the blast would follow that of the the sample's natural decay. Quitting & relaunching PT fixed the problem (closing & reopening the session didn't work).

Again, just another data point, hoping it will help Digi isolate the issue.

I particularly find it dishonest that Digidesign claims that the mbox is compatible with the mac pro when it clearly isn't. I thought I should let them know in case they forgot about some of their customers still having issues.

So maybe it's a core audio issue? Makes sense to me. I wonder if Digi is reading this thread.
