Default error 6042 with XPpro

Hi!

How can I get rid of the error 6042 (PCI bus too busy) in XPpro?
When I start ProTools LE 5.3.1 everything is normal. The CPU/PCI usage meters in PT are normal, nothing to see.

But when I open a session the PCI meter gets red and seems to freeze at the highest level. In the answerbase are many entries of this error but not with XP. There seem to be problems with SCSI drives but I have IDEs. And I have an AGP graphic card; I read of problems with PCI graphic cards.
And I have no IRQ conflicts.

Thanks in advance

btw: on the same computer I have no problems with Pro Tools in Windows ME..

PIII 866MHz
Digi001 (IRQ7)
PT LE 5.3.1
VIA chipsets
mobo Elitegroup PVAP-A+
SBlive (IRQ5)

clausiii,

Do you have any usb devices?
On my PIII 850MHz I could only playback a session for a few seconds if I had my usb cable modem or my usb midi interface enabled before getting 6042 errors.

Luckily my midi interface also has a serial port so I used that to avoid the pci bus errors.

If you do have any usb devices try to disable them and see if you can run PTLE without getting the errors.

Good luck,
Marc

thanks for your input!
I´ll try it out but I think I´ve done that.
Should I disable the USB-Port or only the device (sa scanner or printer)?

I used to only disable my usb devices and PTLE would run fine.

Thanks again. I will try it out tonight.

But why does it work in ME without disabling USB?

clausiii,

Is the digi pci card the only device using irq 7?
When I was still using my PIII for PTLE I had to move the pci card to different slots to get the card it's own irq in XP.

IRQ7 is not shared. It was shared with the LPT-port for the printer, but I disabled this port in the BIOS.

I just went to XP last week. I brought the data drive from my old computer but the C: drive was new on the XP computer. I don't remember if it was the same error you are getting but I couldn't run the session for even 1 second. Both hard drives were on the same cable. Oddly switching the position of the drives on the cable fixed the problem. Another guy was putting the system together and he had seen that before so he tried it. It had to do with the capatibility of the hard drives with each other.

It's just something else to try.

Good luck
