For singer / client confidence I would opt for a Neumann TLM 103.
A Neumann makes everyone at ease and is a trademark of quality most folks recognise.
As time progresses you can get alternate mic's.

I always reckon:

Home alone - sure get an esoteric / rare / unknown / lesser known brand.

With clients? get a Neumann.

Jules

P.S. Tip 4 U - the TLM 103 goes REAL well with an HHB Radius 40 valve mic pre / comp / eq (called TLA 5051 in Europe BTW)

Like what most on this thread have mentioned, you can't go wrong with the Neumann.

Or, go with the KSM32! Once you have one, you're gonna buy more.

I agree with Jules. I'm sure an A/T 4033 or 4050 or some Rode mic would work very well, but I bought the TLM103 because of the client recognition factor - and it sounds great.

I also just received my 3D Audio Mic CD and started going through the various mics - very interesting...even more so than their preamp CD.

The tlm 103 is very nice, but I wouldn't buy it until you've compared it with the ksm32.

Also worth considering: this year, for the first time that anyone I know can remember, Neumann DROPPED their prices.

They probably had to drop their prices to compete with all the mics shooting at them.
