Default Updated to X2 , Now resolved

Hi All,

I took a jump and installed an AMD X2 up from my AMD 3200+. Same motherboard but I did have to do a Bios upgrade. Now that I have reinstalled everything, I can only put the Core card in. As soon as I place a secong HD card in, the system hangs on boot into windows? Pull it out and no probs. I've changed the cards arouns as I have 3 HD cards plus the core here.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Nikki? Shan? Rail? Anyone?

Thanks all,

Big D

This sounds like an IRC conflict.

Hmmm...

Have you tried running the Core in the slot the second card was in?
I take it you tried using the other (3rd) HD card instead as well?

Do you have another system you could test at least two cards in? (friend or someone maybe?)

IMO, an IRQ "conflict" with a normal XP install is more difficult to come across. Worst case here would be hitting the BIOS and manually forcing some stuff maybe...but I dont think a simmple BIOS upgrade would harm things like this.

Last question: have you tried reverting the BIOS?

Hi All,

Thanks for the Thoughts, I will continue to fiddle. I am also upgrading all the other drivers for the Mother board such as Raid and IDE etc, so will see what happens. Will let you know.

All the best,

Big D

An Update,

I have been able to get 2 cards working by using Slots 4 & 5. I also upodated all the Raid, SATA and USB drivers that were available for the board. If I can't get the 3rd card to work I will downgrade the BIOS again and see what happens, as it is strange that I could run 3 cards before the CPU upgrade and now only 2.

Will post more findings tomorrow.

All the best,

Big D

Do you have a good power supply? Seems like adding another CPU will increase the power needs of your computer and digi cards are power hungry.
Peace,
Brandon

Hi All,

Hi Brandonx, Thanks for the thought. I have an ANTEC True power 550 watt, so all is good there.

After lots of different configurations i finally got the system back to HD3. For those interested, I had to reverse the Card order. I.E. Core card in Slot 4, HD ACCELL in Slot 3 & 2 and make the connectors go backwards in the opossite direction they were intended. Now it is back to normal and I now have the X2 extra power for the RTAS etc....

I am once again a Happy chappy!!!!!

I will change my settings in the Best PC thread also,

Thanks for all your thoughts,

Best regards,

Big D
