Default 2018.7 Full Scale Noise Bursts

Hi all,

Just throwing this out there in case somebody else experiences the same.

I was testing 2018.7 on the same project for 3 days and everything was fine. On day 4, I decided to install in another suite to get one of our other guys testing it. We both started getting bursts of Full Scale Digital noise in the middle of a clip. If I re-cached the session, the burst would go away from that clip but would show up in another clip.

If the clip was auditioned in the finder, I'd get the burst there too. Unmount the drive, remount, audition the same clip, no burst.

We were working in different projects, in different workspaces, different drives. Same result.

I decided to roll back to 2018.3 (Application and driver). but I was still getting the same noise bursts. It wasn't until I imported all the tracks into a fresh session (linking to the audio) that this problem went away.

It seems that 2018.7 somehow corrupted the session files. Staying on 2018.3 for now. All appears to be back to normal.

Turns out, importing into a fresh session didn't work. Restoring the project from a backup. Will let you know how it goes.

Apparently 2018.7 is not tested or supported with Nexis.

I was told this by Avid Support.

I can't find it anywhere in the release notes.

At a studio I work for they've been having issues with Nexis corrupting audio as well. They are on PT12.5, though.
I think you're better off working off a plain NAS than using Avid branded hardware. They always seem to come with a catch.

Storage needs to be supported by PT in order not to result in fullscale noise bursts. What's next on the list that needs to be supported? Tables? Coffee mugs?

From Avid Support:

"The same issue was reported from another customer in the US.

Now the issue is logged as:

PT-244265
(Urgent Escalation) Audio files corrupted, noise added, regions disappearing frequently after updating to PT 2018.7 with NEXIS

and the investigation has been started.

We are sorry for your inconvenience.
I will keep you updated."
