No PSU. It doesn't require one. I've used it on multiple macs with only the thunderbolt cable for power—including a smaller, older MacBook Pro. I'm still unsure why there's a power option. Maybe for thunderbolt cable lengths longer than 25'.

AVID does not include a power supply with the HD Native Thunderbolt. This includes everything a new one includes.

A power adapter is needed if other Thunderbolt devices in the chain before the Thunderbolt HD box are drawing power in excess of that the Thunderbolt port on the computer can provide.

Bearing in mind that HDN is only supported as the first or second device in thunderbolt chain at sample rates up to 96kHz. Higher than that, it must be the only device.

Hadn't crossed my mind. Correct. If AVID thought that would be a common scenario one would expect they'd include a power supply. They do not.
