Default Why I won't be buying PT10

Still no audio "freeze" after all these years.

The upgrade which is $300 is way too much money for people who payed $800-1k JUST LAST YEAR!

All of the "new stuff" are things that should have been included already.

The included RTAS's are bunk... PT can do better...

Still horrible problems with PT9 that they have chosen just not to deal with (i.e. the 003 problems among others).

i feel the prices should be

PT9 to PT10 on an academic license: free
PT9 to PT10 based on Purchasing PT 9 On or after August 1st 2011: free
PT9 to PT10 standard upgrade: $100
PT10 Full Boxed: $600
PT10 Full Download: $400

LE to PT10: No option make them get 9 first or 10 right now.

bottom line whether is standard or HD consider a discount just for choosing download. $100-$200 is fair in my opinion for the amount discounted for download version.

Also for this so called free upgrade on the academic version, honor it at least, i have a feeling Avid is going to try to avoid this.

I won't be upgrading simply because I don't need to right now.

There will come a time when I will want to upgrade (I intend to stick with PT) but it won't be until there is a 64Bit version available. All the other bells & whistles on offer with PT10 can wait.

As a student I'm staying positive - if what's being said about the 4 years of free upgrades is right then at least academic users (who in the UK are getting canny shafted by the government right now anyway) don't spend most of their student loan on upgrading Pro Tools and will likely get 11 providing it comes out in the next couple of years.

That being said, I use Pro Tools almost purely for academic use, I'm still seriously considering shelling out £215 for an edu copy of Cubase 6 because it has features that Pro Tools STILL hasn't got (Drum Maps, Offline Bounce, x64 processing), as well as apparently catching up in the areas Pro Tools was better in (elastic audio, tab-to-transient, beat detective, vocal comping, etc.)

I appreciate Avid are trying to please two very different user bases here, with the 'home' users and the professionals running hardware-based systems, but if I was running a small native-based studio with a choice of DAW, I can honestly say I wouldn't be running it on Pro Tools right now. It also seems daft that the native users are being held up for x64 by the professionals because of hardware architecture - obviously even though Avid could technically make an x64 PT10 for regular users, they won't because the big money comes from the pro HD systems and giving regular users something first would outrage them even more than the weird pricing Avid are throwing their way.

Nope.

RTAS isn't 64 bit, just as TDM isn't 64 bit.

Dropping one means dropping both, means both the HD users and native users need a transitional version that gets them through the new plugin format.

Making a 64 bit Pro Tools version means RTAS and TDM go extinct. It's not about who is holding who back.

What's the 003 problems are you referring to? Mine has worked flawlessly with PT9 once I got all the current drivers. I did have an issue where it kept going offline after closing Pro Tools and not letting me relaunched PT, and it just turned out to be an out of date driver for my firewire controller. Went into the device manager, clicked update driver for my Pyro card and haven't had issues in almost 7 months.

But yeah, the PT 10 price is [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep]in ridiculous, especially since I just bought 9 in January! I wouldn't mind paying $150, but damn $300?!

But hey, be happy that you actually have an upgrade plan possibilities. Heck at 299 upgrade for the non HD is too expensive?

http://store.apple.com/us_smb_78313/...ode=MTY1NDA5Mw

Apple charges the same price for their logic studio upgrade.

Even Cubase 6 upgrade reached the 299.99 mark (upgrade from cubase4/5 or cubase elements 6)

http://www.steinberg.net/en/shop/buy.../cubase-6.html

Where's the difference in that? Why is that okay for them, but not for Avid?

Oooo that alone is worth $299 and Eucon support which no one owns is well worth the $999.
