Default Updating To Catalina, Any Suggestions?

Hey Guys -

I'm getting ready to update my Mac to Catalina. Have any of you guys experienced any problems or has everything been smooth? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!... Bill

Yes, stick with Mojave. So far all Catalina has done is messed 32 bit apps, split iTunes into several apps, which would have been good but it wasn't done as well as I had hoped. It's ok overall but I can't think of one thing I actually like about it.

The lack of 32-bit support will be the biggest hurdle. Go to About This Mac in the Apple Menu. Hit System Report, then Applications at the left. It'll take several seconds to populate. One of the columns will show you whether or not your Apps are 64-bit. Many will say "No." When you move to Catalina, you will no longer be able to use those Apps. I'd be very careful about upgrading until you're certain that you either don't need those or have solid replacements.

Otherwise, Catalina has been a solid OS in my experience. And, as always, if you can do a clean install of the OS it would be ideal. Installing over Mojave works but may not be as comprehensive as a clean install.

If you are fine with leaving all things 32bit behind, do yourself a favor and perform a CLEAN install of your system. Meaning erase your storage, install everything from ground up, do not use Migration Assassin or Time Machine, but the tedious install everything by hand copy everything by hand oldskool method.

I myself found a HUGE difference between upgraded (from Mojave) system and clean install. Well worth taking the time.

Newbie here, so apologies if stupid question.... I have just bought a Focusrite Solo and I am trying to get Pro Tools | First to work with that and my new Mac AirBook - this is running Catalina 10.15.4. - I think that I know the answer to this but.... from what I can gather - Pro Tools|First 2019.6 does not appear to be compatible with Catalina 10.15.4 - is this correct? Any advice appreciated - many thanks
