Default Delay Compensation Question

Hey Guys -

First, sorry for this seemingly basic post, but I can't get a clear answer from the manual or from a search on this forum.

As we all know, most plugin manufacturers are coding for everything except for TDM these days, so when I buy a new plugin, I get the RTAS version.

The problem I'm facing is that many of these plugs introduce so much delay that I can't run very many of them without having a mix get "into the red" pretty quickly in terms of delay compensation.

My question is, what are you guys doing to compensate for this much delay. I always try to use my TDM plugs first, but some of the new cool plugs I have are RTAS only.

Thanks for your advice... Bill

Hi,

Work with the biggest hardware buffer you can tolerate.

If one track goes over, then read the amount of delay it is causing, then turn off delay comp for that track (Command+Control+Click on the top delay number in the box at the bottom of the track) and move the data back on that track by the amount the delay comp was reading

Refrain from using RTAS on auxiliary tracks, and try not to use both TDM and RTAS on a single track. It avoids unnecessary trips in- and out of the mix engine.

And, where possible, use the AudioSuite version to render the audio in place. No ADC required

Hi,

Yeah using RTAS after TDM on audio tracks will cause extra delay. Using RTAS first on audio tracks will give least latency option.
