Default Need help buying new Mac Pro for PT10 HDX

Hi,

I'll be upgrading my HD2 Accel with G5 soon, can you help me choose the best new Mac pro to use with PTHD10 HDX ?
Quad or 8-core ?
My job is mainly post, no virtual synth, mixing concert for broadcast often but no virtual synth either. My plug ins are mainly TDM.
I'll be putting 12 to 16 GB of RAM in whatever model I buy.

Thanks for your time.

Don't waste your money on a Mac Pro. They're soon to be updated or killed off.

Based on peoples' experiences, it seems like the 6 core (custom order) is a great all around solution, having a good number of cores and fast processors.

It seems to be the sweet spot for price/performance, especially for those on Native systems, but it should work great for HDX systems also.

Don't buy one now. Apple will either be releasing new models within the next 3-4 months, or killing off the line and likely replacing it with something else. Keep an eye on this page:

I'd buy one now if you need one:) That's the question. I love my MacBook Pro i7 chip 17". It all depends what your needs are. I have a Tower and a laptop in the studio. I need a laptop all the time when I travel to film locations. G

My 8 core Westmere Mac Pro opens easily a session created with my other HD3 Accel system.
A session which accommodate all 3 Accel cards chips in full plus some RTAS (Altiverbs mainly).
Approx. 20 min, 120 Tracks, many VCA groups, crazy automations and very high editing density. Digi EQ3 on every channel. Five to six ReVibes on Foley.
Full 5.1 pre mix.
Go with HD Native. Although nobody knows what will be "the real world" system load with AAX native 64 bit plugins but it seems to me that current computers will perform well for smaller sound design suites.

Thanks for your replies.
I can't wait for Apple to release new Mac Pros as PT10 or HDX won't do it in my G5.
My account manager told me it would be better for me to spend that money now and not wait until next year (because of taxes) so waiting is not an option for me.
