Default How To Sync Two PT Systems.

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone (if it's possible that is) knew how I would go about syncing two Pro Tools systems?

I am currently using Pro Tools 10 HD2 with 3x Digi 192's as one system and then have a smaller system on a laptop which I use for on-the-road-recording, running PT 10 with a Digi 003..

I was wondering if there was anyway to sync these two system with the laptop being the slave?

I only ask as I have Instrument Plug-ins on my laptop which I don't have on my main setup. And sometimes when I have been recording drums off premises I wish I could just plug my laptop in and then record all the extra parts on my main system while the laptop plays back the drums if that makes sense.

Any ideas would be really appreciated!

Many thanks.

Take a look at Avid Satellite Link. (Works only for HD, though.)

You could try running Video Satellite LE. It's not officially supported for audio playback, so you'd have to try it to see if it's phase accurate with your particular configuration.

Try SMPTE (LTC) or even MTC. You'll need at least one Synchroniser, eg SyncHD. Or a MIDI interface on each side for MTC.

In addition to the positional reference (LTC or MTC) you also need speed sync. Which would be word clock for you. Can also be done via digital IO such as AESEBU or SPDIF.
Only one Master, all others in slave mode.

Read AVID's "PT Sync and surround concepts" document. Its on your computer in AVID / Pro Tools / Documentation / Pro Tools.
A very good read!

Hope this helps,

J.
