Default PT 12 HD with Core i5

I'm curious about running PT 12 HD (software only) on an imac with intel core i5 3.2 Ghz. I realize Avid recommends a min of the core i7, however 98% of my work is merely audio editing with a little to no processing and/or mixing. I need HD for running surround tracks, multiple picture, more number of tracks and some editing features. Any insight welcome. Thanks!

If your track count isn't huge, you will probably be okay. Just push the buffer to 1024 and see what happens. If you were on a PC, I would not be too hopeful, but I think the i5 gets a better shake on OSX

Welcome to the community.

You can try how far you can push it and be happy for what performance level you got. Obviously i7 with its quad cores is more powerful than i5 with its dual cores, but that is basically it.
